Have to do a little bit of back tracking, Thursday night I went out and didn't write and last night I was too tired to write.
On Thursday Adrian went to Dr. H's office for lab work. That is when they draw some blood and check what his WBC and all other counts are. The WBC was still low, even if it was a week since the Neulasta shot (that boosts WBC) It was 1.4 and that was the reason for him feeling just a little bit under the weather. It was nice to have the explanation to it so nothing else was going on. They told him, come back on Monday and do labs again and then to do a PET scan on Wednesday to see how the cancer have reacted to ICE.
His bones were starting to ache in the evening and we thought it was the Neulasta that was starting to kick in.
About 4 am he couldn't sleep because the pain in his lower back was so bad. He couldn't lay down, stand up, walk or lay on his side. It was pretty severe. I got ice packs pain killers and icy hot to try to make it more comfortable. We were up for about an hour and a half then the Hydrocodone started to kick in so he could go back to sleep.
I took the kids to school and on my way home called the nurses and told them we need stronger pain medication for this back ache.
When I got back Adrian was in severe pain again and I called Dr. H's office and said this is not normal. He's never had pain like this because of Neulasta. He had taken Hydrocodone again and it took a while for it to kick in again.
You know its always harder to chase the pain than staying on top of it. Takes longer for it to settle once its 'out of control'.
Dr. H wanted to see him in the office so we drove up there and Adrian was pretty woozy. I was thinking if I should just take him to the ER instead but he was able to talk to me so I figured we'd go to Texas Oncology first.
I think the drugs, bad pain and bad sleep was the recipe for Adrian being out of it. We arrived at TO and immediately they gave him IV pain medication and a muscle relaxer and he fell asleep within minutes of it taking effect. He also got saline IV. They drew blood and his WBC had gone up to 3.6 - indicating that the pain he was having was from Neulasta shot.
He was sleeping on and off for a couple of hours, at least the pain was gone.
Around noon he woke up a bit more and then he pointed to his mouth and I could see he was pale. I looked around the room for something to give him and the only thing I could find was a massive trash can. There he is, in the big recliner with a massive trash can in his lap puking. Poor baby.
(I need to tell you all, this is the first time since I have known Adrian to ever even known him to throw up)
A few minutes after he threw up the pain started in his back again - he explained it to be like contractions. The nurse came in and gave him another bag with IV drugs plus a bag with something for nausea. She told us that the IV drugs kick in quicker but don't last as long as oral drugs.
At this point, Adrian is high as a kite. If not higher... I had some short very interesting conversations with him. :)
Dr. H had ordered for a CT scan to be done. She wanted to make sure there was nothing else going on in his body - back or stomach.
We had to drive a few minutes to the radiology office and on the way there it was a reminder of when babies have reflux.
Projectile vomiting!
He threw up most of the drink that he has to drink before doing CT scan. Not that I really care a whole bunch, but thank god that we brought the bucket from Dr H's office!
After the CT scan we went home and he slept for about 4 hours and then slowly started coming back out of the clouds. We got some stronger drugs to bring home in case of he would need them during the night but it went well. I could honestly start making a living from selling his pills - we got quite the set up here!! :) :) :)
The CT scan came back negative which means that there was nothing else going on in his body like kidney stones or appendicitis. Again it is leaning towards the Neulasta causing the pain.
The pain didn't come back last night and he slept through the night as well. Today he is feeling much better, he says he can't remember a whole lot from yesterday. (good for him :) since he has no clue what he was telling me while in the clouds)
He is up and around this morning and just has a mild pain in the back.
That is why I was too tired to write last night and I also wanted to see how the night would be. But it looks like always, he is a trooper and finds a way to work through it!!!
He is amazing!!
