March 6, 2011 SPRING IS IN THe AIR!

Although it is kind of cold in Austin today... :)

We are now a year and a bit out from the first time we said Adrian and cancer in the same sentence... Geez... what a ******** year it was!!

In the last year we have experienced: rigors, night sweats, wrong diagnoses, cancer diagnose, CHOP chemo, numerous bone marrow biopsies, PET & CT scans, side effects, remission, joy, happiness, night sweats, fever, relapse, ICE chemo, more bone marrow biopsies, scans, search for bone marrow donor, more chemo, bone marrow transplant, side effects, RECOVERY!!!

Adrian is keeping up the fantastic recovery and he now has a full head of latino hair!! :) He is lucky he has great genes!

This morning I was looking at his MD Anderson page so see about the upcoming appointments. There is a page where I can read all the documentation and reports from the doctors.

It says that he started engrafting on day 11 after his transplant and that he basically did great. One thing made me laugh out loud...

Everyone who knows Adrian knows that he is a workaholic. It is just in him and all through last year, he never stopped. Chemo or side effects, his phone was never out of reach, nor his computer. I admire him for his strength and determination to do that.

So... I was reading one report this morning and it was from 12/28 - Day 8 out from Transplant. It is a nutrition report because he was loosing weight due to sores and chemo.
This is what it says:

Cancer Diagnosis/reason for admit: Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma/ AUTO transplant Chemotherapy- Carmustine, Etoposide, Cytarabine, Mephalan (BEAM)

Contributing data:

Pt denies any nutrition concerns /busy with call
Current Diet order: NoFFV, Reg
Current intake/tolerance: Currently pt reports good intake

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! There he is, 8 days out from transplant, in hospital barely able to speak or eat because his throat is filled with sores and he is 'busy with call' when the nurse is in there trying to assess his weight loss.
I can picture him, saying to nurse: "Yes, yes, I'm fine". then turn away and keep talking : "Ok, J what we need to do is..."

It is Adrian in a nut shell!!   LOL!!  Hope it made you giggle too!
